A strong background in art and design make Erika Hollen, creator of Hollen Zoo Designs, stand out among other web programmers.
Erika Hollen holds a Master in Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University, and an Art K-12 teaching certification from Meredith College.
As a life long learner she has continued her learning through classes at the University of Richmond. Classes included Search Engine Optimization, E-Markerting, HTML/XTML, and Java.
Erika is also the owner and creator of Jackson Sage Botanics (and Doggie Sage!), where she not only creates all the products, but manages and designs the website and all product labels.
In her own words, “I started Hollen Zoo Designs began because I began a small business, Jackson Sage Botanical Skin Care. When I founded Jackson Sage in 2007, I had little time and even less money. I couldn’t afford a web designer. Web design pitches ranged from $2500 and above. Since I needed a shopping cart, custom sites the cost can really add up. I began the quest to do it myself. I had done web design for years, and was the Web Master for the elementary school where I taught; but it wasn’t till I discovered WordPress that I felt like I had control over the design and functions. Now I could control the content without having to go through a web designer every time I wanted to change the special offer on the front page. With WordPress, themes can be customized with coding to match the look and feel of your business, and anyone with or without website knowledge can continually update their site.”
Hollen Zoo Designs focus is to create affordable web design, that allows the user to update their site, and change the content on every page, easily and in a timely manner. In other words, you are getting a site for your small business, designed by a small business.
When Erika is not busy with her businesses Hollen Zoo Designs, Jackson Sage, and Doggie Sage, she spends time with her Zoo (which is made up of a husband, 3 dogs, 4 cats, and a garden), and visits Virginia Wineries. Our first two legged addition, Kodi, was added to the Zoo in June! We are over the moon about the arrival of our baby boy.
